License a/c mechanic here. If your a/c work, dont try to fix it.

Dont use a flush. Just change regurlarly with regular oil, it will clean out by itself over time.

I too am surprised it idled at all. I agree it would point to a potential leak still in the system. Or it was idling on PCV vapors alone.

Thanks for that link, I may investigate that product. Although I got the hose on with use of a hose clamp, I am not convinced it'll stay potentially popping off once it warms up under the hood. But...
