remove the teflon tape.Alot of sensors get the ground from the engine.( I know VDO specifically states this in the instructions)
Its a pipe fitting so it should make its own seal as it tightens.

For the record, I did nothing with the steering wheel or air bag...I thought it was pretty easy to pull the dash out the passenger side with steering wheel intact.

take your time , have a cup or small box to collect all screws and bolts .
The lower part of the center dash has the HACV controls move them carfuly to avoid the small clips that hold the hard l...
