Going to Portland in October
Im going to be in Portland for a month and theres a few things I am curious about:

I would like to go camping, preferably on the coast. Where would be a good place to do this at? One of my friends has a car, but I dont know if I would have access to it, so it needs to be somewhere that some sort of transit can get me to for a decent cost.

Are there areas in Portland that I should be cautious of?

Ive heard you only get a ticket for having weed. Can someone elaborate on this?

I don't find Portland to have any neighborhoods I'd be afraid. I am very tolerant of bad neighborhoods but its pretty tame if you ask me.

You will be taking the greyhound to the coast, but I like seaside lincoln city Astoria etc. Thge gorge is also rally nice and if you like windsurfing mt hood is close to portland and world class.

Ive never been windsurfing, and I dont plan on doing too many water activities. I really just want to get out onto the coast and see the other ocean, experience some wilderness, and see the things to see.

Well here's your options:

Seaside, Tilamook, Lincoln City, Newport. Pick one and then look up the state park on its website. I don't do a lot of camping because my job has me outside and in parks a lot.

I would reommend that you make a reservation. Camp sites in Oregon do fill up regularly.

Excellent. Thanks!

How is the weather typically around that time? My friends said there is a lot of days of drizzly misty rain, but I dont know if that was into the deeper winter months or once its outside of summer.

No problem. It is mild but it will probably rain on you. Maybe a lot. Definitely invest in some rain gear but nothing too heavy. It probably won't be a driving evil rain.

Also be careful to look at what route you take to the coast. Some of the passes may get storms and even snow. You don't want to be on some logging or forest service road when it happens. Stick to the main roads is what I am saying.

Went here this weekend. Really gorgeous. Good hiking. Nice little surf running. Kinda mushy but in August you can't complain about the swell.

Is there anywhere decent to fish in the area? I will be staying off NE Prescott St, and I can see that there are rivers close, but I dont know if they are really fishable.

Maybe someone can clear this up. In Florida, a fishing license is not needed if you are fishing from the land/bridge/etc. I cant find this particular bit of info from the resources and regulations thing.

Friggin $61 for an out of state fishing license!!!!
