Okay, just asking what was wrong about this.

26 pages and I am still lost and frustrated just like I am sure Ric is.

re read what you typed... u cast blame on a specific person without completely understanding the issue.

real a-hole move.

I guess you folks that want to call me names or denote my actions with negative connotations please help me rather than be a sour-puss.

"another pos $$chuck/benson$$ experience"

I understand Benson is to blame for the sealing issues.

But, there is another part to blame "$$chuck" which I do not really know who it is, I can only guess it is Charles.

Instead of being so fugging negative, why don't you sort through the 26 pages of drau-muh and let me know how that goes. I went back through half of the thread and got tired and had to go to sleep. (and the worse part is, I found no vindication towards what went wrong)

I like to keep track of what fails because if it can be avoided, it SHOULD be avoided. Sorry, folks, it is called learning.

I'm sure Rick doesn't want to turn his thread into a shitshow about how one or multiple people might or might not have screwed him. I think that chuck/benson comment was a nice low key way of showing his dissapointment. It's no ones business to read into his comment, and have him explain himself. Too many "shoulda, coulda, woulda" arguements to be made when it comes to these types of builds.

random pics
spare block thrust bearings

the spare block on its way to get bored. Forte5 good for more than a commuter

changes...decided against using oem headbolts. according to al @ arp, the arp head studs ARE re-useable. i'll use the original set from the 2.4L chuck build.

ya ya.

my original plan was/is just to have them do the bore/hone with plate. maybe a thorough cleaning also. that was it. but...after checking out their shop, this seems to be 1 high-end joint with all the best equipment. i counted no less than 6 machinists. they do everything from top-fuel engines, down.
i'm considering letting them do the entire lower end build-up. hell, i have the mofo tore down to the last nut/bolt, everything bagged and labeled for easy re-build.

commentary... no holds barred!
my $$chuck/benson$$ comment explained........

ya think i'm pissed/upset/disappointed/tired of dropping/installing engine after engine? a car sitting on jack stands more than on its tires?

things i've learned over the last 2.5 yrs and $12k...

if you're interested in boring a sr20 block, make sure the head gasket you use is bigger than the bore. for reliability reasons you don't want the fire ring protruding into the bore/comb chamber. for instance. the PE gasket is designed for a 90mm bore and measures 91.2mm. not 92mm!
the maz bored ve-t gasket for the 87mm build measures 87.2mm
why would some one tout the pe gasket for a 92mm? i don't know, but $chuck$ did @ his old shop (asp) in kent.
make sure your pistons don't protrude above the deck...(they were on my build)
....especially important if the head gasket is protruding into the bore!YA THINK!
to be continued......i'm sure
