Payu, Im sorry but if your piston is sticking up above the top of the sleeve/deck then something is wrong. Same issue Stratton had with his, they put it together anyways and sure enough his piston hit the head and ended up throwing the rod completely out the block because of it.

If the piston is sticking up then the custom pistons was made wrong. The edges should be pretty much level with the deck or just slightly below. Not sticking above. Strattons motor was plain obvious from the pictures that something major was not right. lol.

Again there are many on here that have used the PE gasket without issues.

It is very much so installer error, block sleeving error or both.

Teal why not try a bored VE-T gasket on the 2.4, from the pictures you have posted the motor looks fine this could just be a sealing issue and you will kick yourself if you dont try.

It's not the gasket, it's the Benson block.

Had one in house years ago that was the exact same.

I warned everyone about them in 2010.

2.0+ in-work
dropped off the spare 2.0 block at the machine shop today for boring and assembly. gave them the new 87mm, 12.5cr cp pistons, and new rod and main bolts. they'll order the acl race bearings needed for re-assembly.
i'm using a different shop. this one is in Lacey, Wa. (local). no-one here or within 50 miles has a torque plate for the sr20.
he won't start on it till Thursday so....is a torque plate THAT important?

now the worked vvl head....i still have it here in the garage. i measured the head of the valves VS the stock head valves. it looks like BOTH, the int AND ex valves are 2mm larger. i'm thinking about de-shrouding the valves but, do you think it's necessary for a HC 2.05L?

When boring a stock block, no its not.

Its really only a necessity on a sleeved block.

Is it better to have one soo everything is super uber duber perfect...yes but every stock block ive had bored and hones over has had zero issues and some of them have been out there tearing it up for coming up on 7 years no without issues. As long as they get the p2w clearances right its all good and you wont have issues.
