On brand new bolts?

I talked to a Mazworx rep and was given a tolerance on the one set that was re-used.

Who ever answers the phone also told me I installed the head gasket wrong and is the reason I was not able to re-use it.

"Our race car uses the same head gasket/ head studs all season with multiple head removals."

This is the exact statement I received.

There are other motors outside of the 2 you are referring to that have been up and running for the same amount of time. One parted out after a few thousand miles and another that killed a set of rings after 130 dyno runs and was re-assembled.

The other two blocks that are not running period, again have nothing to do with being a 92x92 motor. I do not understand why this is so hard to understand. So 3 out of 7 big bore blocks failed because of "user error" or sleeving issues. Whats the big deal? Go to Mazworx or Custom Design Performance to have a block sleeved, while using a fresh head gasket. Done.

Mazworx you assembled one 2.4L that we know of running, the other you just sleeved. Outside of sleeving these blocks and assembling short blocks, (since the heads were ported elsewhere) what experience do you have with these 2.4s?

Too many people are quick to jump to conclusions and have input to share when behind the scenes its a totally different ballgame.

Still waiting on this answer.

Brand new bolts of course have not stretched. Wasnt sure if you guys were re-using bolts.

It is true that our old race car used the same head studs and gasket unless we threw a rod out the block then no the gasket will not be re-used. Studs will be re-used if they have not been stretched passed its limit.

We've fully built 6 2.4L engines. One in the states, 5 outside the country. As far as I know, the cars are still being worked on so there's no direct feedback yet from the engines. Most of these engines are using off the shelf parts that based on specifications on what the customer wanted and what we recommended should make good power.

Other than that, we have not had any hands on experience with tuning these things. With all motor, there is sooo many different combinations that can be tried and tested to make good power, whereas turbo apps just put the right size turbo, cams turn the boost up and there you have the power. N/A is much more intensive in R/D work.

In the Honda world, there's the demand for it, that's why you see guys making products, testing them on there race cars and offering them out. There's a handful of guys that have been around the all motor scene for a while and can make a name for themselves. In the SR20 case, the 2.4L and above is still fairly new. And no one is really pushing it to its limit to find it plus and negatives to make better parts.

If it takes us to build an engine, do engine dyno testing with different combinations of intake manifold, exhaust manifold, compression, cams etc, we by all means are for it, but there has to be a demand for it. Right now, there is none. So we cant spend the money and time to research and develop if people arent willing to step up to the plate.

This is definitely not what "Eric" (i believe is the name) explained on the phone.

When I explained the sealing issue, he insisted on multiple occasions, the race car's head was removed and the SAME gasket was re-used through the race season .

Totally understandable.

- The one thing most guys around here want is a FWD N/A VE intake manifold. Most are happy with N1's and Kelfords. Better cams could be made yes, but an intake manifold is in high demand. Make one that is proven to have gains and I don't see why 10 would not be sold.

ARP studs here. i won't re-use them. just figured it's a good maintenance practice to use new, when possible.

DO you have a straight edge? you could check across that section with feeler gauges to see if it is really flat in relation to the rest of the block.

the front cover feeler'd out to ~.10mm higher than the deck.

hmm... is that enough to make an issue? basically head would be on a slight angle. very slight though.
