Big bore short stroke should help it rev. I looked into it a while back about the nascar engines that are spinning a v8 to 9-10,000 rpm. They use a large bore short stroke setup but its a very calculated setup. It more so has to do with the bore to stroke ratio. I think they use something close to a .9 to 1 ratio.

For example, if they are using a 4" bore and want to keep the .9/1 R they would use a 3.6" stroke.

These are not exact numbers but I cant find the referance material at the moment and its been a while since I looked into it.

Anyone who likes racing does!!!!

Go 90mm x 68.7mm and actually let the head gasket seal. But that would require a new block.

Actually, a 4" bore can run a 4" crank only if you use a 6.125" rods.

i understand.
sr24ve removed today. gonna take a break from car crap till next Monday. then i'll swap all the accessories and almost new crap (hoses and stuff) over to the 2.0 (should be here before then). then the tranny comes off, jun ultralight fw swapped over, replace the drivers' side axle with the new one (still in box).
will also swap the N1's over to the 2.0
i'll put the 2.4 on the engine stand and tinker for a while.

i feel like i'm going backwards, and it doesn't feel good

Strat, you got it man. Any movement is better than none. Don't quit. Occasional rest/pit stops are encouraged for long term goals or the unexpected setback or two. Props for you 2.4L guys who dare to live the dream.

started on the 2.0 today(couldn't wait till Monday)
doesn't look too bad

i'm gonna strip it down, remove the i/m, and send the block/head to a machine shop. gonna have them clean up the head and ports of any casting flash's. probably going with bc springs, again. had good luck with them on the other VE. this will end up a 2.0 with a little bump in compression, so gonna hang on to the kelfords.
will replace the bearings with acl race, replace the fr/rr main seals and get a new gasket set. haven't decided on n1 or sr16 pistons. (any input?) like to remain below 12.5-1. i understand a little will have to taken off the dome? say, .5mm or so?

sorry to the guy's that made me offers on the cams, but even @ my asking price i was loosing >$200.00
