We all know the big bore VE can be done, Cory is proof of that. This is new territory to lay down a decent template for these builds and have them work sucessfully. The joy of driving one of these is worth the money and troubles to some to attempt a reliable setup. Jamie is helping Ric to get his initial issues under control and I believe everything will fall into place. This too shall pass, no one said it would be easy though.

its already proven that a reliable 2.3/2.4 CAN be done. its a matter of KNOWING what you're doing assembly wise. not being some jack-ass mofo out to make a buck. (speaking of machine shops).
and NO, sir Charles had NOTHING to do with this.
Jaimie, your offer is under consideration while i figure a way for buds to foot the bill (reimburse me) for what i paid them and not wanna a second chance @ fixing it
i'm gonna pull the plugs and VC in the next couple hours. the suspense is killing me.
now back to my regularly scheduled diss-assembly

Sucks to see you having soo many problems with your build man. Id say do a leak down on it and see whats up. Even with the cams that close to 0,0 it seems like it should throw down at least decent numbers unless something with the tune is way way off. Even with a choked header it should still do better than that.

No, just didnt make good power and started making some metallic noise under the valve cover. Possibly something in the valvetrain. Maybe a shim popped off or something. I saw that happen when my buddies 2.2 build and the cams were stuck on at idle, even with aftermarket s&r's

the only way to know its done right is by doing it yourself. and it really sucks because with these custom builds its really not something someone can put a garuntee on. you never really know whats going to happen with these things. maybe you will have better luck just going through everything yourself. after all no one cares as much about your engine and set up then you...

im really curious as to what the deal is though. id like to see the graph, by looking at just the numbers im wondering if possibly one of the cams was possibly not switching at all? did you verify they were indeed working?

so i pulled the plugs, they look normal...

pulled the VC and couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. all the rockers are in place and in 1 piece. didn't see a broken spring or anything.
went to a tool rental joint and picked up a borescope. it was hard to tell for sure but there was something different about cyl #1. i'm concerned enough about the differences i saw in #1 compared to the rest that the car went back up on jack-stands. so the plan is to drop the motor again, pull the head and get a good look inside.

i'm sure the exh. cam was kickin'. the noise was nasty
an all too familiar sight.

gotta move the Miracle Grow. shit wreaks of bad karma.
