pix of header w/choke
as you can see its a mild 7* angle from 3" down to 2.5". thats a short reverse cone on the end that flairs back to 3" for hookup to the collector. the overall length of the header was increased by ~ 3/4 " is all. the flange is not welded at this point to facilitate ease of installation at the exhaust shop.

the additional length was removed from the collector then the flange was welded in place.

first startup precautions?
oil is 3.5 qts castrol gtx 10w-30 with a 1 pint bottle of lucas oil zinc additive. plan is to add 2 teaspoons marvel mystery oil down each of the spark plug holes ,then turn it over with the starter (no fuel) 2 or 3 times to lube the cylinder top end and prime the oil pump. reinstall fuel pump fuse crank her up.
gonna let her run steady (adding coolant as necessary) till fully warmed up (177*), then 5 minutes longer checking for leaks of course.
shut her down, let it cool some then drain the oil and change the filter. add fresh oil/filter. let the engine cool overnight.
next day pull the cams to re-torque the head bolts.

comments?

i would put some miles on the motor before you re torque the head bolts but i understand you are being very cautious with this

update..
in my best impression of the voice of Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein....coming from the smoke filled garage IT'S ALIVE......, IT'S ALIVE!!
the header fits like a glove. tomorrow i'll take the car in to weld up the flange and call to get a front end alignment. at this point there are NO fluid leaks. (pat self on back)
when the idle was ~800-900 i could feel and hear the lope of the new kelfords...i love that shiiet man! almost like the S5's in the old DE.
warm oil pressure is @ ~35psi at 1200 rpm idle. i've been doing lots of reading on bitog and other forums. the new sn rated off the shelf oils, even synthetics, are not as good as they used to be. so, once broken in, this motor will be fed a diet of Redline Oil, nothing else. ordered up a case today.
