minor update
yesterday i dropped off the main stud kit, head studs and rod bolts. all arp2000. also the PE head gasket and a new set of bc valve springs.
the block has been torn down and cleaned.
new etc. mid december
in the mean time i'm gonna work on the big header. putting a smaller choke on it and welding it up.

(warning: off topic content)
my x-mas present to myself...ordered up a set of Road Magnet springs for the Forte. the little dawg needs to get down
i'll team them up with koni bump stops.

update..uh-oh
got a call from Bud's. while fitting the pistons on the crank they noticed that they stick out the top of the block some, hitting the h/g. they only took like .001" off the deck.
i'm thinking of the options i might have...remember, i have a spare engine to use for parts if necessary

1. would it be possible to use the 86mm crank from the spare? or would the piston sit too low in the block? what affect would that have on my c/r, if any? remember, the pins have been raised ~3mm
2. pick up a 91mm crank? ($$)
3. put the worked head (with kelfords) on the spare block, throw some sr16 pistons and call it good?
4. or, bore to 87mm and add new cp's ($$).
i'd like to stay w/92 bore w/my existing pistons if possible, for obvious $$ reasons.
any way i look @ it, the 92mm crank is going bye-bye.
5. can the 92mm crank be machined to 91mm or 90mm maybe?
6. custom shortened rods
did i leave anything out?? other possibilities
and to make matters worse....the new arp (det) head studs (too short) and main studs (too long) don't fit the VE. i've got new oem nissan shit to work with though

Could go with a 91mm crank if the piston is only sticking up less than a mm. With the piston height for a 92mm piston you probably wont loose much displacement. Need to measure it and find out how much it needs to come down first before spending money on anything.

Id say no on the 86mm, your not gonna get the full compression you need with the pin raised like that. Its gonna sit way lower than the deck of the block.

the more issues i hear with the big blocks the more i love this setup. there's cars on the forum doing damn good for such a simple setup.

All you need to do its take the pistons to a machine shop and tell them to cut down the outer part of the crown of the piston with the specs that you have to make it flush with your deck.. That will reduce your CR an save you the head gasket problems in the future. And you wont have to spend on new block setup just machine your existing piston to work with your block and put it to use...
