maz hg. mines not a dd so it doesn't get much use. the mishimoto radiator cap is a 19lb'er. i replaced it with a oem spec 13lb cap today. took it in to the shop this am. they did the quickie "does the blue fluid turn green or yellow test".(hey, it was free) turned out ok. Monday it goes back for 4 gas analyzer and leak down test. (fingers crossed)
if this turns out ok i can press on with getting the slip fit welded up and a, yet to be determined, choke installed on the (SC) header.

blackstone labs
did oil changes today on the se-r and forte. sent the gtx samples off to blackstone labs for analysis. give it 7-10 days for the results.
re-filled both with pennzoil platinum 5w-30 and using napa gold filters.

all good
comp. 240psi +/-3psi
leak down 8-10%
4 gas analyzer negative
no bubbles in the radiator neck when pressurizing any cylinders.
he does think the rings aren't fully seated yet.
he also thinks it was a burp or 2 that made the coolant level drop.
i'm satisfied there's no internal damage and will press on with the header welding and kelford install

this maybe silly but i rather ask then not.. did you get some shims for the new cams?

Yeah 240 compression on a 12.5:1 motor especially 2.45L motor seems low. Leakdown seems kinda high and do you know where your loosing the pressure through, if its not the cooling system, it can only be 3 other places, crankcase, intake, exhaust. I did this test on a buddies car that didnt believe he had burnt the exhaust valves on his s14 motor. lol Heard a nice whoosh through the exhaust when the cylinder was pressurized and on every cylinder, lol.

Glad to hear its still pretty healthy non the less.

there was no set pattern. 1-2 you could hear it. 2-1 you couldn't. you could hear it in 1 when pressurizing 4, but not the other way around. he thinks its through the crankcase. didn't hear anything out the exhaust, nor the intake. i'm guessing your buddy was boosted?

yeah, he was overheating the motor and not knowing it because he didnt have the temp sensor hooked up and was getting on it and was wondering why it was running worse and worse to the point it wouldnt run anymore. Detonated the crap out of it and blew the headgasket. Pulled the head and put it back together and still wouldnt start and sounded like no compression. I went over and did the leakdown test and every single cylinder was blowing air out the exhaust. So pulled the head and took it in and every exhaust valve was burnt.

Yeah if your hearing it all around its more than likely going into the crankcase. Rings probably didnt seal right or maybe your ring gaps were a little too large. Could be several things. 240 isnt too bad for the compression but all i know is i hooked up my 300psi gauge to my buddies 2.2 12.5:1 ve build and it broke the gauge pegging it past 300 and that was an initial compression test before the motor had even gone through breakin.

fluid motorsports/cam install? LONG
so i ran around Oly today looking for a JOINT that knows something about nissans. found out they really hate it when you explain "in detail" what you want done.
i ended up @ Fluid in Tacoma (i go by there every day to work)
got to talking to the young man behind the counter about the task @ hand when he pulls out the cell phone and makes a call to "this guy". evidently "this guy" used to work @ unnatural, down in Portland. you VanPort guys ever hear of it?
so "this guy" says he can do it in 2 hours. i'm thinkin', "wow, sign me up".
so after they finish their call i start quizzing the Fluid guy if "this guy" knows his nissan shiiet. he points to a head on the floor behind the counter. i recognize the VC as an sr16ve. i'm thinkin', OK. then he says the head belongs to "this guy", who intends on putting it on a sr20de block.
so i'm told "this guy" got burned out on the whole scene down in the Portland area and is now working at something else up here (where he's from), but does a little side work when he can.
anyone maybe know who i'm talking about? is he trustworthy, or should i keep searching?
