on the passenger axle there's a brass colored round thingy about 3" from the tranny end. it sits right up next to the axle/tranny seal when the axle is installed. these things are are getting smashed pretty bad. i may be able to remove the good one from my Raxle, but shouldn't HAVE to. then, if i damage my used "good one" in the process, i'm REALLY screwed.

I haven't noticed them actually help sealing though. Mine hasn't been flush against the seal and my tranny has never leaked from that seal

You should be fine.

I don't have one of those things on mine. Is it a B14 thing? Was it totally mangled? I would just bend it back and run it.

all the OEM axles have those rings including the B13 and P10's. Most of the rebuilt axles around here don't come with those.

I don't understand what is funny about running the axles without the rings.....

I bought a rebuild kit and got new ones to use. My old ones had them and I used new ones. I am pretty sure they are supposed to be there.

If I was sitting under my car and noticed the ring was mangled I'd just throw the axle in there and cross my fingers. We don't consider that a damaged axle thats all. Most of them are like that.

That ring is not required I'm sure it servs a purpose but it will work without it

its supposed to be there, or the oem's wouldn't have it and the after market wouldn't attempt it. its supposed to sit flush with the seal. if the pos ring (dust shield item26 page fa-16) is mangled/bent not even on straight, it would damage the seal with each revolution.
i'll keep my fingers crossed.
