my biggest dilemma now is deciding on a t/b and i/m:o.
whats most important for me is good (oem type) drive-ability more so than max power for the sake of max power. i'm willing to trade 10whp for the "joy of driving". i'm actually thinking of boring the stock t/b to 65mm to start with. if i'm gonna drive cross country to a convention, it's gotta have cruise!
the B15 TRANNY PLUGS ARE HEX unlike the square b13/14. so a 14mm fill and a ? drain?

maz...i was really looking fwd to your crank, but the timing just didn't work out
(if you guys have some ideas for a n/a manifold and/or custom built header for this build lmk, ASAP)

minor update
haven't progressed much. b15 tranny seals/switches are on the way from GV.
next week i'll change those out then mate the tranny to the engine.
ran around most of yesterday to find a cooling system pressure tester. i was concerned there was a chance the head gasket may not be sealed properly. so i looped the coolant lines, hooked up the radiator and tested the system to 20psi...all is good (thanks for the tip Dan Benson from Benson Machine)
installed the napa gold oil filter (1365) and filled the crankcase with castrol gtx 10w-30.

more news soon

xcessive custom mani
i've finally decided on an xcessive (custom) mani. i'll be driving south to beaverton/portland with my oem mani this thursday a.m to meet up with Rich. it looks like 2-3 weeks out for completion.i'd like to make the runners as long as possible (lowers rpm needed for max torque)
i need a couple measurements first.
1. from back of stock mani to closest point on the firewall (or other) hard interference.
2. and approx. how far from top of stock mani to underside of the hood? (b14 of course)
(i'm thinking a couple inches both ways)
TIA,

lol hey you snuck that in there on me!!

i can take some measurements from my b13 if it helps but i dont know how similar the bays are between the 13/14 but from what i've seen they're pretty close..

lmk if you want me to do that.

ok so the stock IM is kinda goofy shaped, theres a few things that stick out that dont need to like the vac for the brake booster an a few ground spots.. but thats ok cause your new mani wont have them in the same spots.. i'd reccomend running the brake booster port on the under side of the mani, would look good to..

i got about 2 inchs from the back of the IM to the closest non movable object on the firewall (which was the lip thingy.. an that was about 2 inchs.. then from of top mani to the bottom of hood (with the stock under hood crap on) was about 2 inchs also..

i would try bringin the mani up an inch and then you could bring it back 2.5 inchs cause you could clear that lip.. plus the further back you go the more hood clarance you get..

hope that helps

good info. about as i remembered it. i'd like to keep ~ an inch clearance on the firewall to allow for movement, just in case. and umm, ya. the plenum will have some things tucked away.

thanks lynch
