87mm update and other news
i went to visit the 87mm block yesterday @ the machine shop. the new acl race bearings are installed along with the ve crank/de girdle combo. yep, using the bc rods from the 2.4 and new 87mm cp 12.5's. the bearings were a perfect fit. we rotated the crank a few turns to make sure everything worked smoothly and checked the clearance on the piston oil squirters.
decided NOT to use the worked VE head. instead, i'll have them update the stock VE head with a valve job and new supertech guides and seals. also gonna throw my older used bc valve springs in and have them shim the stock 20ve cams.
the 184c's are also going bye-bye

Why stock cams with a high compression engine and valve springs? IMHO I would use the cams that you are planning to use in the end since you are getting head work done and everything re-shimmed. I would rather do everything all at once, since you are using a tried and true setup, there aren't many variables that you have to worry about eliminating. Why are you getting rid of the Kelfords? You have the valve springs and the correct compression to make them work right. Those are the key to making great power on a high compression 2.0 ve

he's probably going to go back to n1's??? i know i wouldn't even bother doing any of this and just use stock cams, im sure he has something in mind.. guess we'll find out.

I figured that also but why not use those from the beginning when it is getting shimmed so there is less of a chance of error when the cams are swapped in later unless he doesn't have them on hand.

Thought that same thing myself actually, I'm sure he's got his reasons.
