Thread: sr16 cams in a sr20ve?

i did a fast search didnt find my answer and i need a answer quick do you need to upgrade springs/retainers in a sr20ve to run sr16 cams. i know you need to for n1 cams but not sure for just sr16 cams.

found my answer on gspec when i went to look for a ve pulley no need for springs

None at all. You can even get away with N1's with stock springs and retainers.

really? from reading i was under the impression for n1 you need springs/retainers this is interesting

I am running sr20ve with sr16ve cams, stock sr2ove springs and retainers for a while with no issue whatever. Even using he sr16 ecu that revs to 8300rpm - and I rev it up there daily...

yea on gspec it says stock springs are fine

think, if the sr16 can rev to 8300, the sr20 can rev to at least that with the same cams.

But how high can you rev the VE in order to avoid the valve float?

I've heard anything about 8k on stock springs w/ N1s will cause valve float. And the reason SR16s can rev so high is because they have a shorter stroke. I know Dre says the 4CW SR20VE crank doesn't favor very well with really high revs for long.

I know someone who rev sr20ve with n1 cams to 8500 without issues
