The alt as you guys know sits on the front and rides on the outer pully which is much larger.

So if you run it on the back, it know has to ride on the inner pully which is much smaller than the outer pully.

Now if you do so, the Alt will rotate alot slowet than it is suposed to so at idel you will get no charge, which is ok if you battery is good because but if you have a bad battery you got problems. I noticed this from my first Alt in the back setup nack in 1998. That at idle my lights inide the car and outside would go alittle dim. So we tested it and thats what was going on.

The Alt thats on my car is from one car. The pully is from another car that has a smaller pully. The smaller pully is there to speed up the Alt a bit to get it to charge at idle.

I am interested to know more about this and what pulley you are using, and if you dont use a smaller pulley could you use a higher amperage alternator from like a b15 sr ?

The alt on the sentra is a tri Y design and does well at low rpm, but I am guessing that you will need to change the pulley like Dre did just to have enough power output at idle. It simply cannot supply enough at low rpm, especially with underdrive pulleys.

A higher amp alt will yeild the exact same results, but when spinning faster will output more current. Just go to a parts store or junk yard and see if you can find a small pulley off of something. It shouldn't be too hard to find.

It has nothing to do with aftermarket underdrive pullys. It has to do with that the inner pully being so much smaller that it will not charge at idle so you get dim lights. This happened first when I was on a stock pully the first time I built one. So if you go to a smaller pully on the Alt you then will speed up the Alt back to its normal speed.

Nice work mate!!!

Cant wait to see the progress pics as the project gets near completion!!

Im curious to see how the stock 20v inlet system stands up with the extra displacment.

Alternator in the back because you wanted to get rid of the Power steering system?

I'm looking at the pick and wondering what the advantage is. Can only think of two things. Getting rid of the PS system, and better weight distribution since it is closer to the middle of the car.

Good work. Can't wait to see the numbers. If some of you guys haven't seen Miko's 94 it is a beauty.

My car right now has the PS in the front. I have an electric water pump so there is only one belt going to the front.

Since I do not have any PS and I will be running the factory water pump setup back on the car, I have moved the Alt to the back so I still run one belt to turn pump and Alt.

Also the front of the motor will look much cleaner.

Also maybe already mentioned but I didn't see but what "smaller" alt pulley are you using on

the alt to make this work Dre??

Andreas I don't know if it has been covered (5 pages lol ) so I'll ask. What is the lowdown on the axle bracket? It looks like a one off part or is it Niscycled from an other model?

Really I'm just wondering why its there. Are there any benefits from it or design improvements for your application? I know the 78e DET block has the issue with the third bracket bolt not lining up. Dose the 20 or 16ve block have the same issue?

Thanks,
Mike

Motor looks nice BTW
