Maybe replace the 1st resonator with a 3", then use a nice taper instead of a step to the rest of the exhaust and i would be very surprised if there is much performance difference to a 3" full system.
Ive had a 3" system for ages and got sick of the drone, and fitted a rear muffler that is under 2" (maybe 1 3/4) thru the baffled part of the muffler, and a 3" butterfly with no baffles. Butt dyno cannot tell the difference between open and closed, its just massively louder. I will dyno next month with the valve open and closed and see what the actual difference is.
Its been a real experiance being able to drive the car at highway cruising speed for the 1st time in 6 years without getting a headache from the drone.
