had to be a piston failure, far more fubar down below than up above. and of the stock internals aren't pistons typically the weakest link? id go with another VE since most of the work is already done to the car.

but those were not stock pistons, those were arias pistons. its weird to say the least, it must have come in contact with the valve to break that piston like that once it broke it looked like the rod just detached from it and flung around a bit luckily not making more of a mess than that, haha

With the amount of metal that is distributed throughout that block i wouldn't trust it anymore.

I am sure Greg V can get you what you need to build another one but for the sake of just being able to drive the car I would say buy a stock 20ve and drive while you build something scary fast.

I have a couple of other cars, so I'm fine for now, but I need this car running within a couple of month, so I have to get started now. But maybe I should order a std VE engine, then I can drive it while I build a DET engine and then use it as spare parts when I assemple the tuned VE again.

I wasn't going to use the bottom again, only the top and three working rods and pistons. You might be right about the damage of the engine, it looks like from the piston that the damage has begun "some time ago" but just can't figure out what have caused the damage to the piston.

looks like the piston has come flying off the wrist pin and hit the open valve, which in turn has snapped the cam from the force.

but god knows how or why the wrist pin snapped, but it would also explain your bent rod, as the wrist pin would snap before the rod will in most cases.

On highport motors the rockers usually just shatter before the cam breaks. Luckily too or my S4's would have been toast in the motor i destoryed when the piston hit the valve after the rocker arm threw and lodged my exhaust vavle open. haha. But good luck on any future plans for the car. It definetly sucks, especially since mine was only built for about 1400 miles, it bites. Stupid lifter cause my problem.

I can see both options as a possibility......
1: Cam snapping leaving valve open, piston hit valve and breakes
2: Piston snapping of the wrist pin smashing the valve into the cam and snapping it, because it can't turn.

anyone know for sure if both situations are possible!?

I turn towards number 2

Normally I keep it just beneath rev limit also when spinning the wheels, but yes it might have hit the rev limiter.

Yeah think I'm going boost this time...... tired of tuning N/A it is way more expensive than boost.
But I will rebuild the VE and put it in my ETCC race car
