I think if someone were to go this route, the budget header and a 2.5 in. exhaust at least should be used, 3 in. if cams are going in. Cory, would 230whp be feasible without anything more than stock cams, or am I talking nonsense?

Ok thanks Miko, lol. Well there goes that idea, maybe N1 cams then! Sorry, probably a stupid question. I don't know too much about the 2.3L build obviously.

budget header isnt built for more then 200whp i think. You would need a custom header built to specs.

^This seems to be the 4-1 header that would do the job on a 2.285L+. Every ASP 4-1 that I see looks like this one. Are there different ones out there made by ASP? Also, what about the protech 4-1?

^We still need intake manifold choices spec'd for the extra displacement as well. I guess we can only spec so much with out going full blown custom on everything lol.

^ yes that was the header that charles built. It was a copy of the header mike kojima had specced out by burns stainless for a big bore de with c6m cams. This is also the same spec that did the best on the 2.0 ve motors with cams. My header is very close to this one aswell.

The reason all the headers look lik that is because that's how asp routs all there 4-1s. The 4-2-1s are routed differently.

I understand your line of questioning and it makes perfect sense to me.

As long as the current exhaust (SSAC etc...) is functional, it might hold you back but won't hurt anything (per Dre) to use it to get started.

New fancy-ass custom header = $1,000.00+ or so....(?)

New 3" exhaust, res, muffler = $500.00 or so...

That adds $1,500.00 to the "price" of a big block VE. With plenty of folks on a budget and trying to "work this" into their pocketbook.

*Existing Decent Exhaust* = $00.00 Already on the vehicle, working for now. Will still allow the (big block) engine enough exhaust flow to produce and estimated 235-240 whp per Dre.

You could always "uncork it" and upgrade the exhaust with next years budget.

EXACTLY!!

like i said tho i could get the header an exhaust an maybe an intake this year but really the gain isnt really worth it until i get a big bore lol..

i'd rather drive a 220-230hp car for a year an uncork it to 250-260 then have 200 for a year.. lol

Even Chuck's budget 4-1 is routed exactly the same. Ask me how I know.
