what does everyone think?
i have a complete 20VE bottom end spare and im due a 16VE long block in a couple of weeks.

going off the condition of the 20VE head, i imagine the 16VE is going to be in better condition.

my question is...should i just put the 20VE crank and rods into the 16VE, this way im keeping the higher compression pistons. or do i just bolt the 16VE head onto the 20VE block and chuck a new set of bearings in there? how easy is it to put the 2.0 crank in? is it just a case of swapping them round or do i need to do things with the oil pan etc?

cheers chaps

16ve pistons, rods and oil pan won't fit 20ve internals if the 20ve is an 8cw with girdle

Your 16ve pistons aren't notched for oil squirters but the 20ve pistons are

if your 16ve has an 8cw crank swap all 20ve parts into the 16ve and use the 20ve oilpans

No! Your compression is going to be too HIGH! Maybe around 13+:1. Not sure how you will tune that even to run on 93 octane?

20ve bottom on a 16ve head is good. same 10.3:1 compression. Yea, you lose some compression but more torque, more power.

I THINK if you want higher compression, you can use sr20de internals in the sr16 block. (ask Andreas Miko).

BTW, how are you going to compensate for the extra 400cc if you use the sr16 ecu?

cheers fellas, so the best way to go about this is to just put the 16VE head straight on the 20VE block?

im not going to be using the 16VE ECU, im going to use the DE ECU and get it remapped to suit the VE by fusion motorsport, MSS for the cams.

also, can i use any SR20 crank and rod bearings for the VE crank and rods, or are the VE ones specific for that motor?

Go sr20ve bottom end with the 16ve head. But shave the head 0.5mm. Also shave the block 0.5mm.

yes you can use any SR20DE crank, bearings and girdle on the ve bottom end. But, the baffles in teh ve lower block are in the way of the girdle. so you need to use the bottom sump and oil pan of the DE if you plan to run DE crank and girdle.

I say stay stock 20VE internals (4cw crank and rods) just refresh with new bearings.
