It's not just HP gain but throttle response from advanced timing. So my question is how high can I go in timing advance before I start loosing power on stock sr20ve cams? I've heard different suggestions: 10deg, 12deg and 15deg, some even 19deg - there is a lot of speculations but none backed by a dyno.
Thanks.

Mine felt best with 19* with 20ve and with 16ve cams. No dyno though

That's what I've read - that sr16's like more timing than the stock cams. But 19 deg is pretty high.

I am using 94 octane for mine, so I might crank it up to see what happens.

I live in Texas and I had zero signs of detonation. What is the peak timing on your tune?

Mine was on the stock motor with a header and jwt pop charger. I really believe that the jwt maps are too conservative. I made 12whp more on 19* than on 15*. I gained a little bottom end at 21* but the top fell 4hp over 19*. You can see my 19* dyno chart on my myspace page. www.myspace.com/jeremyv

I did very well with that motor and it was as stock as they come. Even turbo the car feels stronger on 19* advance.

well basically from what i have seen in dyno from friends with VE is that 15 degree is the best option. No much time ago a friend took his 200SX VE to the dyno and in the first pull the car was at 19 degree and the car made 183WHP and retarding the timing to 15* the car just like transformed to 189 and the way the engine response was different to. I haven't tried this with my VE but soon will be. Like someone said EVERY ENGINE IS DIFFERENT. You may have the same mods like somebody but the performance will be different in both cars. Good Luck!

Yep.
I first put it dead center. Then went to dyno and fed it timing until I made the most power.
