Best VE Timing
I have run my VE in two different setups: 12 deg base timing and 15 deg base timing (as per Calum), the car seems to be stronger at 12 up on the top, what do you guys recommend?

These are the mods:
- VE
- Calum Basic
- SSAC 2.5
- 2.5 mandrel exhaust
- subaru muffler
- DE MAF
- 2.5 WAI

It is still not very fast when it hits the high cams - it pulls hard but not substantially harder than my last DE with same mods (minus Fidanza).

Did you do these pulls on the dyno or just using your mind? All Ill say is the VE likes timing.

Get rid of the DE MAF. Its your bottleneck.

Has the de maf been proven to hold back a bolt on ve or de? I don't think that is the issue.

dont know if its a restriction or not, but the size of the AFM is markedly different internally.

Was it on stock sr20ve or your monster engine that you are running now?

I agree, that is not so much of an issue and as I remember it has been proven not to make a earth shattering difference.

I really don't know how much of a difference the upgrade MAF would do. I haven't played with my timing at all. I just put it dead center. Even then, it pulls hard.
OR
Have you just got accustomed to just being faster? Put back in the DE and see. haha

Either way, I hear how much the VE loves timing. But how much power can you expect from just timing?
A mere 2-3 hp is not worth it to me.

I think some folks dyno charts have shown like 8whp from timing advance
