How much play? If I remember correctly, they should have minimal play to none. I'll check the play on a couple of transmissions I have laying around and I'll report back.

Never really checked, so not sure, I've heard of that in the past though, but since I haven't tried it personally I can't say, yes for sure. In the event that it did, it would make sense if the bushing wasn't in its place that it might cause the input shaft to not move around a bit.

What do you think might be the culprit for his premature clutch failures?

I believe a twin disk is the easiest fix if the splines are in good shape and with minimal play.

Correction, lol. Now I know for a fact that the input shaft doesn't touch the pilot bearing. I just checked that and could confirm it. Also checked 4 different trans and they all have very minimal play. My findings came from a b13,b15,p11, and gtir trans.

DOWELL PINS!

Should be 3 in the flywheel and 2 in the engine/trans I've seen several clutches fail from a missing Dowell pin..

Here's one from a week ago..

It's not really a theory. I have evidence- I broke 2 JGY clutch discs (springs broke/popped out) in my B13 trans. Found a another used disc and put it in the new B15 trans and it ran forever. The B15 trans is so much better than the B13/14 it's ridiculous.

Maybe it was the JGY discs fault an not the b13 trans..

I'll agree the b13 trans is not the greatest.. however, as far as them being prone to ruining discs I believe that's not true.. maybe if the input shaft bearings were worn an there was excessive play..

Also this guy is AWD SO this b13 vs b15 thing is Apple's an bananas..

Yes this was what I wrote originally. I said to OP he's going to have a tough time finding answers to his problem because almost no one here has an AWD SR20.
