Thread: need help clutch disc rivets keep bursting

First i will try to explain my build.......i have 4 door nissan 4wd b13 with a sr20ve fwd engine on a gtir awd gearbox. In order for this to work i had to shave parts of the transfer case to fit it to the engine block. the engine is dynoed at 350hp act extreme pressure plate solid 6 puck clutch stock flywheel
my problem is i keep bursting the rivets from the clutch disc or the hub spline is cleaned out.
i need some advice on why this might be happening and a solution please

ACT clutch may be to blame. I've found that they kind of suck, especially the discs. I've broken two just in my NA VVL's.

Maybe you should try the Clutchmasters FX500. Love that one.

I blew out the rivets of my fx500 NA on a ve... I cant recommend it.

ok guys thanks......but i should of said this is my third disc tried three different brands and same result it will only last about 6 runs and wait the engine is turbo charged...........can a bad flywheel or missing pilot bearing be the cause?
i know fwd sr dont carry pilot bearing but the gtir does

Wow. What HP were you pushing? My NA VE dyno'ed max of 210WHP @ 7960RPM. I never had an issue after I went to Clutchmasters. I did however blow out two other discs (one a JGY) Here is an actual photo of one of the springs breaking thru:

I would guess about 350 at 17psi

I see. People are going to have a more difficult time than normal helping you out with this problem because of the AWD trans. If you had a standard B13 trans, I would have just said get rid of it and swap a B15 trans in (I have one and love it) - but your situation is much more unique

what would swapping a b15 trans in do for his clutch disk?

I did the same thing as zen but continue to use clutchmaster setups on my cars

have you had the flywheel resurfaced? how many clutches have you been through and are the same exact ones each time?

The B15 trans is so much better/more durable, less likely for the disc to fail overall. Within reason of course. I ran an OEM B13 trans and blew 2 clutch discs, then grabbed a B15 trans for it and the new disc survived. )
