Your post is anything but pointless...there truly is something wrong with the camera car. It's almost as if he's in the wrong gear, that's just too strong of a jump from "identical" cars, and I use the term identical loosely.

+1 Another thing worth noting. At bolt on power levels, which are usually sub 180whp, an extra 200lbs of ballast makes a substantial difference; but I still think something is amiss with the camera car. Towards the end the black car looks as if he's no longer pulling away, but then it shuts down. I mean, it's not like the camera car was equipped with a T1000 turbo waiting to spool...

both de and ve have their potentials, there are alot of variables such as, bolt on, i any tuning is done, driver skills, weigh of driver, weight of car...alot of things to take into consideration when saying one engine could out power another

It also sounds like the camera car is running an open header, that would definitely hurt him, especially with the stock cams.

It revs awfully slow to be on the high cam.

shame on Mr.Ve!
actually, on the small lobes a stock Ve feels about like a S3 cammed De through the bottom end, up to ~7k . pretty mild by today's standards. after the cams switch it feels similar to the upper power band (above 5k) of the same motor with S5 cams. those were my butt dyno impressions. and my actual dyno charts later confirmed the ass

an s5 cam will make good power, but not 170whp worth. mine did 170whp with stock cams. just a high flow filter and ssac header. everything else stock.

I think 99-sel made like 165whp on his s5 DE motor, and he had a lot more work done to that one.

I feel like the bottom end is more like an s3 or even s4 (at least on mine) and the top feels stronger than an s4 for sure.

I also had very good bottom end, but I have no direct comparo because I changed over to the sr16 tranny when I went VE.

How is the gearing on the sr16 trans? Is it really at 5k around 70mph?

Something is wrong with your ve if a de is giving you problems. I stock ve should get the better of a de. I've seen de run very well but with lots of work. No mildly modified de will out run my ve, especially since I use the sr16 cams but stock otherwise even with stock header.

Peace
