The DE is old and a great motor. The VE is better all around. Power, gas mileage, price.
A fully bolted DE will cost you more than a VE. The VE will make more power with less time. There is nothing to prove with the DE motor.

I dont know how true this is cause with my DE with s4 cams and a 75 shot is like a bat outta hell so i dont know if a Ve with basic bolt ons will murder a DE on gas like you say. S4's and my zex kit is a very fun combo, i shocked plenty of V8's with this setup

I think 99-sel made like 165whp on his s5 DE motor, and he had a lot more work done to that one.

se-r420(i think) and myself both busted 170 with S5's and other supporting bolt-ons so i think my comparison is valid. let me see if i can post up my old dyno charts for a looksey. here we go.

as you can see, the top (Ve) chart and the S5's chart hp curves are similar. torque is where the Ve really shines in every day driving though. it starts out with more (thanks to small lobes) than the S5 cammed De, and carries the torque further out up top.

You do realize I have had about every form of an SR20 possible? I have a 450whp turbo car in my garage. A fully bolted de. A bolt on VE and I just sold a fully bolted DE with nitrous. I have had 35-55-75 shot jets so I would say I know what I am talking about. Btw that zex kit is the **** isnt it.
Also I have toasted many of Cobras and LS1 powered cars on the 75 shot.
Another comparison... I had an 02 Lightning on the 75 shot I could beat it.
The VE car is a hair faster too.

DE made for boost
VE made for both

I can vouch for that. I remember both. Mike K also got some nutso numbers on a DE but it was pretty intrusive as I remeber. I want to see his VE already :cough:

I just finished my ve swap into a 99 SE-L. Hotshot intake running it warm air, Calum basic with n1 tune, ssac header with 2.5 secondary, greddy 60mm catback, prothane mounts, jwt clutch with 8.8lb flywheel , and msd 8969 switch. On the low cam it felt faster than any de I have driven. On the high cam
it pulls pretty hard. I went from a t25 turbo setup at 12psi to a ve so I can tell that the ve still has some guts. I'm used to instant power at 3krpm so I am still waiting to hear the bov make its noise

So you have a 2.5" header going into a 60mm catback? Mmmmmmm? Do you feel like your needs to breathe better?

Thought I had a 2.5" catback but since that muffler came from Japan I'm almost sure its 60mm (2.36") since they use the metric system. And I just ordered a 2.5" SSAC header so my exhaust will be similar to yours. I am now feeling better that it should work without any issues.

I have sr16 cams, sr16 ecu with greddy emanage blue - stock clutch, intake & header (for now) and I wont say a modded SR20de wont beat me but it must be well worked.

Peace
