I understand area vs peak, but I think the street is a horribly inaccurate place for a test, because I'll bet the time spent over 5500 rpm is tiny. And thats where the VE becomes the VE.

With the gearing of the B13 5spd, I barely hit VVL even in autocrossing.

The reason the RSX-S is such a great track event car, is the same reason the VE is so good. Its the highest part of the power band.

a VE with the same mods will trounce a DE.
the cammed DE's make good midrange, whereas most of the VE cams available focus on top end.

maybe its the driver, no harm intended. do a compression check on the motor or mod the motor and free up all that power

how built are the DEs in question?
What would you estimate its tq at 5500k rpm ?
If greater than 155, I'd understand.

IT happens here as well, some cammed DE's, full bolt ons making like 155whp use to beat VE's with around 175whp the VE's with basic bolt ons. (I/H/E/AFC). They beat them for almost nothing, and some times go side by side, even on 4th gear.

But then my friend build his VE with I/H/E/SAFC and a JWT with no rev limiter + VE MAF, and that thing pulls really hard on any DE and the other VE's, he revs the thing to 8300rpm, I think that helps a LOT and probably the JWT maps are better than the stock ECU maps with SAFC.

VE's never realise their full potential without a proper ecu (be it a remap or replacement etc). They respond well to a good tune, particularly ignition timing.

Difference is night and day with proper setup.
I received a VE with B13 ECU/MAF and open headers. Still ran quicker than my DE.
The VE now with JWT ECU/ Maxima MAF I/H/E is a totally difference beast.
The way how the car running, its hard to believe a bolt on DE can keep up in 4th.
However, I would like to see it happen.

show some dyno sheets

peak hp doesn't mean anything really it's what you make throughout the rmp band

the de's may be holding more midrange power

.....it has got to be in the tunning , so much more time has been spent tunning the De , vs. the time that has been spent on the VE ....but there is that old saying power is not everything

yeah from 4th the ve really starts coming into it's own...
