So you degreed the cams on the big lobe instead of the small lobe?

Makes sense for the VVL guys.

Anyone else degree cams on a regular DE engine? were they out?

This accounts for any plaining to a head or an old stretched timing chain too right?

Yes, in the spec sheet for the cam it is the big lobe spec and it is top end power i'm reaching for.

It is always a good point to degree your cam. Read this: Sole Purpose of Degreeing Your Cam

But this is just suggested values from manufacture of the cam. to make it perfect you need to go to a dyno or do some heavy calculations that includes everything from air filter to exhaust end.

new years update
Not so much work have been done on the project in 2016 yet.

VE upper oil pan modified to fit with DE girdle mounted:


Bottom end finished:



And a little late christmas gift:
4x 45mm second hand DCOE throttle bodies. Need to modify/make manifold to make them fit.

^ I'm not sure if i'd use that on a VE, let alone a 2.3L ve. Ports are way too small for even a 2.0L ve. You need at least 50mm iRCC and like 60mm trumpets.

Was that even for a DE? or another type of motor.

Use an excessive plenum and a 90mm T.B. or Q45 T.B.

Have you done the calculation?
4x45mm has the exactly same surface are as one 90mm.
I, know there are more metal in the way inside 4 bodies than one that is not taken into the calculations.

I got them so cheap so no problem not to use them.
My other option is to fabricate my own intake plenum in fiber/carbon-fiber and as you say use a 90mm throttle body.

The best would have been able to make both and test them in the dyno to se the real difference. (difficult when i need to cut and weld the manifold to make DCOE flange.)

this man speaks the truth! ported shorter xcessive or gato intake, or decent sized itb (50mm or larger). check out this thread

don't even bother with it unless you can hog it out to 50mm!

God even my doug fab intake manifold for my de uses 45 or 47mm i.d. runners

Plus you would need the curved trumpets to make the most of it (60mm opening)

This has been beat to death here on the forum. Its been tried by 2 fellas here and they lost 10whp or so with the 45mm runners. SEARCH!

Also to get a rough idea of what sizes would work the best, check info on other motors like a k20/k24 itbs. Are they using 45mm runners lol?

Dont even waste time and money on 50mm
I would try Hayward's 60mm if you want to go ITB route

hayward 60mm itb or bigger is the way to go......44mm is a waste of time
