Little convo about the Franklin Hybrid Cams
So I picked up a set... and was unsure if a re-shim is necessary based upon the lack of information regarding this. Armed with zero knowlege and "the google" i found dick all for info regarding their "drop in status"

so i emailed them and here is what i got:

ME:

Hello,

I have recently purchased a 2nd hand set of cams (never used) that were produced by your company and I would just like to get a little more info about them.

These are cams for the SR20VE motor, and the cam card that was attached to the exhaust cam says “hybrid”

I’m assuming these are the 20v low lobe N1 high lobe cams hybrid cams. Can you please verify if the base circle is the same as OEM? I’d like to do a minimal amount of lash adjustment/shimming if possible and any information that you can provide would be extremely helpful.

Cam Card:

Name: JT
Make: Nissan
Model: VE
Type: Hybrid
Remarks : EX (assuming this is the exhaust cam)

Thanks in Advance!

Yes, this is correct, the base circle was std oem so should drop in ok,these are very good all round cams, sort couldn’t hear you on the phone

and the attached doc listing the specs in detail:

i remember reading old threads about franklins, and how the centrelines were all over the place. doesn't seem like that now from those specs, as far as i can see.

That's interesting cause I thought franklins or keel fords reshiming was needed.

I thought so too but as the cam is based off oem cams I figured it would be worth the 45 seconds it takes to fire off an email to find out

That was the first version which only were a handful were release.

I have a Franklin hybrids in my VZR, Franklin are about 40mins drive for me. Adrian said the same thing to me about shimming, my head was rebuilt so i reshimmed anyways but LOADs of people here just drop franklins in with no issues.

Awesome cam, i love mine, loads of torque down low and awesome top end.

At the very least it's worth checking the clearances.

Spot checking lash should be a given on any cam, aftermarket or oem.
