I actually tried to set the base idle and couldn't get the motor to stay running with the TPS unplugged. I'll try messing with it again.

I also just checked the check engine light codes and I get two. One is P0115 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit and the other is P0125 Insufficient Coolant Temp for Closed Loop Fuel Control. I installed a brand new aftermarket temp sensor (for a 96 G20), but aftermarket units have been known to be bad. I may go to Nissan and grab one for 96 B14 (no Infiniti dealer here, ha ha). Could this also be an issue of the ecu trying to reference between the cold air idle control valve and the temp sensor and seeing too large of a delta because the control valve isn't touching anything hot?

I could have two different issues going here, ha ha.

it wont stay running with the tps unplugged because the idle is too low!! Bring the idle up and set it right with it unplugged. Then plug it back in after and see where it idles and go from there

When I tried to set the base idle, it was idling at 2k with the tps plugged in, lol. Unplugged it, and it didn't want to stay running.

So checked the coolant temp sensor harness, everything good there. Checked the resistance between the two terminals and it was way too high! Supposed to be about .24-2.1 kΩ but it was sitting at about 600 kΩ! So that definitely needs to be replaced...

So I ended up eliminating the cold air idle valve from the system, but left it plugged in. No check engine light at all. New coolant sensor, so car runs great. But, I still have the dying at idle when warm issue. I turned the idle up to 1200rpm via the AICV, and it wont die, but it does drop down very low (300-400rpm) and hesitates for a bit. Driving around it's fine, just when at idle. Maybe the TPS is going bad?

I also tried yet again to do the base idle adjustment/timing with the tps unplugged, and it will sit at 3k rpm and never drop down to do the adjustment. Left it running for nearly 10 minutes with no change.

Weird I'd see if you could meet up with someone who has a consult cable to put it in timing mode via the ecu. What ecu tuning did you opt for?

Yeah, that would be beneficial for sure, lol. I have an OBDII US ecu chipped by JWT for the VE. I run the VVL using an Apexi AFC Neo though. Everything else on it is currently set to 0/no change from factory. I went that route in case I wanted to do minor adjustments.

What maf did you get it programmed for? Have you tried running it first without the neo wired in to isolate the issue?

I honestly keep meaning to try it without the AFC, but keep forgetting, ha ha. Logically everything is set to not change a thing except VVL, but you never know. The JWT is chipped for a Z32 MAF and the AFC is just set to the same in and out for the MAF. And I am running a Z32 MAF. I had a brand new one laying around for when I had it on my S13, hence why I had them do it. No extra cost to me, and now if I wanted to go turbo, I wont be very limited by the MAF, ha ha.

Odd well when you move down here I've got consult so we can get it figured out
