Couple of questions on Claying a VE
Hi guys,
The machine shop got a little overzealous when resurfacing my block. I didnt' have much clearance to start with so now I am going to have to clay the motor. I've never done this before so I just want to confirm a few things quick:
a) Can I only assemble the minimum in order to clay? I'm thinking Crank, all main bearings obviously. Can I do this with no oil pump cover?? no upper or lower oil pans. Only install # 1 rod and piston. Old head gasket of same thickness.
b) I take it the cams need to be degreed, then the head removed, then the clay inserted, then head reinstalled?
c) How much clearance (minimum) is required on the intake and exhaust side? Do the forged pistsons and rods expand more/less than OEM stuff?
All in all this seems like a royal pita, but I suppose it has to get done now.
