If you opt to use N1 pistons, then i would recommend shaving 1mm off the crown, take out 1mm on the valve reliefs too just for extra protection. especially if using a stock head gasket. then have them recoated, will give you a nice little high compression motor. As Sam said, a DE block is not the end of the world, you will just loose the Oil Squirters, but Piston coating can help in this instance.

unless the cylinders are messed up use the SR16 block and new oil pump and chain. Notch pistons for the oil jets and retard the timing till you get it tuned. Go find a good DE crank and throw in some forged eagle rods or stock rods. I'd rather just throw in forged rods since your going to beat the piss out of it lol.

^^As he said....Notching isn't needed if using a DE block though.

Mean't to ask G, Do you know if the block is unusable?

no not yet, too bloomin cold to pull engine in this weather...no garage...so will be doing it out on the drive.

Ok finally got round to stripping engine..

as you will see, bearing in #3 is completely missing, crank worn...

Head removed...piston chambers look good..though looks like valve contact on #3..
