Thread: Vvl Breaking Up

Encountering an issue with a recently done ve swap. Motor is stock with bolt ons and n1 cams. Once the car goes into vvl, it falls on it's face, begins to break up, hesitates and feels as if it has no power. The program on the ecu is for the setup in the car. Wideband is being connected today to confirm afr's but was wondering if there were any other possibilities that may have been overlooked. Car is running a b15 distributor btw.

what does this mean exactly?

Im running an obd2 realtime ecu with a n60 n1 cam ve tune. The car has the same mods.

Does the car rev out and pull to redline smooth if you don't switch the cams over? Check to see if this makes a different and let us know. What are you using to switch the cams. It is very common to have a bad switching circuit and the car feels like its breaking up when it is really switching in and out of vvl.

Ill give that a try and report back.

check ya plugs mine does this when the plugs are fouling make sure u arent running lean also mine is running low fuel pressure(34psi w/Vac 40psi W/out Vac) even after fuel filter and fuel pump replacement

Disconnected the power from the msd box. Car still encounters the same issue. Any ideas? I'm running a b15 distributor. Anyone ever have issues running one in a b14?

Ok list your exact set for us. If you have your b14 distributor do the bolt tab grind down trick and try it. I have never run a b15 unit on a b14. I have used the b14 dis. on a ve and run a ve dis. In both b13/14 without issues.

Where are you getting your tach signal from to switch the cams? Trace it to see if it's got a good connection. The signal from the ECU is best, since you have an internal coil with the B14 distributor.

Here's the setup on the car. Stock bottom end. Vet headgakset, mazworx headstuds, super tech springs and retinaners, n1 cams and n60 maf. The tune is for the exact setup apparently. The wideband will be hooked up soon to confirm afr's. Also, the signal for the msd is being pulled directly off the ecu wire.
