Compression Tested
I do a compresison test, the results was:

1 - 190 psi
2 - 190 psi
3 - 190 psi
4 - 185 psi

What do you think? Good, bad, normal?

Was it cold, cold with oil, cold without oil or warm compression test?

I did a cold test on mine, without oil and got around 170-180psi but that was at the engine importer's site (so engine was probably sitting for few months).

Otherwise as long as they are consistent within 5psi, looks very good.

i think thats exactly what mine was when i checked it.....and its been running strong for a year and half now

Anybody knows the fsm numbers?

Was warm and WOT, with no oil

Make sure you are doing the compression test correctly too.

Make sure your battery is fully charged before you start. The engine needs to be warm. Make sure all plugs are pulled and that throttle body is wide open. Doing this will insure you get correct readings. if you still have the same reading and have less compression on one cylinder squirt a few drops of oil in the cylinder that is having lower copression readings. If after you do this the copression goes up then this means that that cylinder is defiinately having issues. Most likely piston ring blow by. Hopefully not though. Good luck

I do that, warm, with no sparks, tb was wide open, i dont use oil to recheck compression.

FSM (SR20DE) says +/- 5 psi was ok. but I want to know SR20VE FSM values.

Thanks for your help.

compression seems low to me,

my 9.8:1 sr20de roller used to do 185 across the board

my DE with VE head and SR16VE pistons did 260-275 across the board

Actually there are lot of variables to this equation - gauge accuracy being one, so as long as it is consistent accross the board (+- 5psi) I would not worry about that too much.

I don't know, I agree with jcgator. My VE is around 220 all across. It's not real bad, but it is a little low.

I agree that the readings being across the board is the best gauge for the health of the motor.

But being that most other VEs get 220 to 275 compression across the board, 180 on a warm engine with everything done to spec, seems low.

That is all.

I never said it is low or that he has a bad motor,
