Overheating. Testing fan
I have a new to me vvl b14 that gets hot in traffic. The problem seems to be the fan. The ac was removed, so the remaining fan never seems to turn on. Any pointers on how to test the fan or fan switch would be appreciated.

Btw. I checked the relays and tstat is new. Thanks.

Do you have access to a consult connector and laptop? Pretty easy to test it then

Get a $3.99 switch (red/blue/amber, whaever color) from Autozone (20amp or higher) and wire it to the battery for power, ground it and then wire to the fans, mount the switch somewhere convenient in the cabin and flip on when temp needle starts to climb. Then your second fan will work.

Also, according to your sig you are in Washington, how warm is it there in early April? I cant imagine that warm.. what are you running for coolant? Maybe for the summer switch to DISTILLED water (not tap or even bottled) and Redline water wetter

P.S. also you could try this. first pull the A/C fuse inside the car. Start the motor w/ hood open and get it up to operating temp, then hit the A/C button on the HVAC and check iif the fans come on or not while the A/C button is on

You can check with the vendors on here, for example the NismoTronic store has them for sale ECUTalk Consult Cable

or if you want to look at ebay, be careful because some of this stuff is just crap.

Search Results "Nissan Consult Cable"

These are the most half assed methods I've ever seen posted. Check the temp sensor. It sounds like the previous owner did not swap over the correct one. There are two sensors, one for the ecu, the other for the dash. If this is a matter of the wrong fan bring removed, why was it even removed. Wire the two fans together. Tighten up people.

And consult is not needed. I've never owned a consult cable and know how to diag this problem.

Um.. some people (like me) like to have control of when our fans come on in our track cars, because when we're waiting in the staging line at the strip or in line at the auto-x we can keep the fans running without the motor on and keep our temps down.

It is called a tuneable ecu. I understand that wiring a switch works, but its bad advice. That is something YOU would do, not something I as a professional mechanic would ever recommend. If you want that kind of control, drop the cash on a nismotronic. Otherwise, don't deal out bad advice.
