Help needed urgently VVL at 6800?!
Hey guys need help urgently!!!

I have a Pulsar Vzr with a stock sr16ve engine. The intake cam is not activating at all. The exhaust cam is activating at 6800rpm. Now i have traced back through the loom and its perfect. The wires arent joined anywhere.

So far i have:
Changed solenoids
Changed ecus
Changed distributor
Changed coolant temp sensor
Changed oil from 10w40 to 5w 40
Cleaned filter in solenoid housing
And still only bang at 6800rpm.

Can anyone please shine some light on this for me???

Im presuming its intake as theres nothing hapoening through the rev range a little flat spot at around 5800 and then a huge bang when it does activate at 6800. The exhasut is a 2.25 straight pipe from the mani.

There are a few ways you can check it. The solenoids are wired up with voltage always present and then grounded when activated. You can wire in a light on the intake and rev the engine up. If the light turns on, the circuit is working.

Install an oil pressure gauge. I had a situation last year when my oil pump was coming apart, dont ask. Anyways, I could still feel the exhaust cam, but not the intake. The oil pressure gauge will tell you if it is a pressure issue, likely not though.

Another way would be to wire the intake solenoid with constant power and with the valve cover removed, see if the rockers are locked. It will be messy and oil will be sprayed everywhere.

Yeah we wired in the light and it turns on when activated. I will whip off rocker cover tomorrow and check the rockers/lifters.
Do i need a sandwhich plate for an oil pressure gauge? I have a greddy oil pressure guage there but no sandwhich plate... does it connect through the oil pressure switch?

You threw me off with sandwich plate, lol. Ive always hooked it up to the oil pressure sending unit. The sensor is 1/8 BSP thread. You can get a BSP to NPT adapter if you need to.

Intake cam is always hard to hear, especially with a loud exhaust.
Just hard wire it to the battery and an earth at idle to check if it's working.

Trust me you'll know if it is

If you have a dip in power before the switch point it could be you are switching too late. Move the switch point down and record the results.
