Rod knock on my VE - options
Hi everyone,

Last Wednesday I was going to a meet with some friends and after a hard pull it started to make knocking sound at low RPMs. I took it back home driving as easy as I could. There was not any strange smoke coming from the exhaust, no noticeable loss in performance. Oil level was good and no oil pressure warning, we found oil sweating through the exhaust manifold gasket on one cylinder tough. In any case, the most probable cause is a spun bearing, but I'll probably be sure once we take it apart.

What I wanted to discuss here is what probable solutions do I have without replacing the whole engine (I'm in a difficult financial situation right now). I'm looking for advice.

My original idea before this happened was to complete this project with a dyno tune at the end February, enjoy the car for a few months then sell it (which is obviously impossible now).

Options
- Replace bearings with ACL ones, in case there is no serious damage to the crank or anything else.
- Replace whole bottom, I may have a complete bottom end which could be swapped over (have a set of SR16 pistons I could trow in there too).
- Sell all bolt ons/aftermarket parts and go back to stock (SR20DE RR).

My current setup
Infiniti G20 / Nissan Primera P11
SR20VE
Kelford 184-c cams
Supertech S&R
Q45 TB
P60 MAF
Nismotronic SA
3" exhaust
ebay header (which was to be replaced with a 20V I got)

Going back to a DE is the worse advice I have ever read on this forum......

Rebuild and use the opportunity to come back harder.
