Yes you are right. Stock exhaust is very quiet you might not hear anything when it switched. It's also killing power too, 2.5" exhaust isn't that loud if set up right, 3" for max power but that will be loud.

Not sure if the 8969 has to be setup like the pill type rpm window switch but when I installed mine it didn't work and I heard nothing at the 5000rpm switchover point did some reading and found out that it was pre-configured for a V8 and I had to snip 2 wires on the box I did that and holy shit I have VVl now lol. The intake cam is pretty quiet but the exhaust cam is loud as fuck.

Double check to make sure the msd switch is functioning as it should, you can rig up a small light on the same circuit that lights up on activation. As for the exhaust, I'm running a 3in exhaust no cat and custom header on my b13 and it's not loud while under 3k rpms. Don't use cheap parts and you can have the best of both worlds.

Actually even on stock header/exhaust VVL crossover is very loud and you have to hear it. Otherwise cams are not switching.

you could always hook up a LED or some light to go off when the cams should be switching. this will let you know if your circut is working properly

You heard nothing? Do you have an intake at least?
