Just to let everyone know. When buying New the regular VE ones are NOT fine teeth version. The one listed for the SR20DET is the one you want.

Tensionor listed for the 20v/Vet is also the fine version, however, the first gen 20v/vet came with the old style from factory.

From left to right.

Used VE, New VE, New DET

Yeah exactly right pTen.

Now where do we buy the Det tensioners?

Also, what does the n1 tensioner look like?

The N1 tensioners apparently have a longer rod with fine teeth, I have ordered some and hopefully ill have some in stock by the end of the year.

Any nissan dealer will have the DET tensioner.

I do stock them here in New Zealand, i gather gspec has them too.

Wow thanks for the info on the different tensioners. I haven't started it up in a couple days (since the video) but I hope all is well. Its like mid 20's and snowstorm here tomorrow so I'll give her a start up later in the week when its like 45 out

Hey guys - so I hadn't started the car up for 5 days and it's been about 16-28 degrees out. I warmed up my garage until it was like 45-50 out there then started her up.

There WAS a sound coming from the same area, it sounded kind of like crickets chirping, but this time once the motor warmed up, it disappeared. And I took it up and around the block again, first slow, then getting on it, and power is great, spinning in 2nd and some of 3rd even (although that's prob b/c I have summer tires on and its 18 degrees out). Then I washed it again, haha.

One thing I forgot to mention, when I changed my oil about 2 months I ago I think the guy at Autozone gave me the wrong oil filter. I told him it was a 92 Sentra SE-R but I needed the 95-98 200SX SE-R filter (because of the VE) but apparently that got lost in translation. After many failed attempts to get this old filter off with my regular cap wrench, finally went and got a $8 oil filter clamp at Walmart and it came off slowly but look at all the damage it did:

I imagine the problem is unrelated, but does anyone know if the highport oil filter is in fact smaller than the lowport or VE? The new filter I just replaced it with went on fine (Bosch 3300) and I'm wondering if I had the wrong oil filter on the whole time. There were no leaks at all, though, and while I doubt that had anything to do with the sound I'll start it up again and make sure in a bit once it cools down.

Strange to see to that car parked in the snow that had fallen:

But see that other car in the back to the left? That's our 2010 Subaru Impreza, AWD. 170HP, 4 speed automatic, and cramped, feels more like it has 70HP, but WOW does that thing kick ass in the snow. Over the weekend we had a wedding to go to during the big east coast storm, we got to the reception at 5pm in the Pocono mountains of PA, when the snow was just coming down harder (like 2 inches on the ground at that point) then left 6 hours later and about 8+ inches more had fallen on and all around the car in the parking lot and town, and it the car just pulled right out of the parking spot like it was nothing. Couldn't believe it. No spinning at all, and just regular all season tires. Amazing. It does get good MPG but it's REALLY cramped inside (worse than the B13) and has no balls at all. It's as slow as B14 GA16DE automatic.

That would make sense because I have the very stiff Supertech valve springs with my N1's

Update again, 2 days later, started it up, no sound when cold, no sound when warming up, no sound when normal operating temp. All seems well now.

The Nissan dealer local to me superceded the old part number to the newer one. I bought a new timing chain tensioner using my B14 vin number and I was given the "revised" model timing chain tensioner.

Cool thanks. The car is actually running fantastic right now. Feels really quick but will still get the updated one
