Thread: 20v Stock springs ok to run with N1's?

I've searched and havn't found a straight forward answer.

Quick answer: Yes.

How high can you rev? Depends where you are comfortable. Most say 8,500rpm. I went to 9,000rpm where the car lived on rev limiter. Saw way over that when I didn't have a rev limiter which led to bent valves after 2 years of abuse.

You have a 20v? I thought you had the normal VE?

Not yet but I'm in the process of selling all of my turbo stuff to get one. Even going to sell my stock trans. Everything must go lol.

Have the N1 cams with supertech valve springs & set my fuel cut at 8400RPM. On the dyno the car made most power at 7940 RPM anyway then power declined.

I wouldn't go over 8000rpm on stock springs.

Stock 20V engine has an 8000RPM fuel cut. This is with 0.9 mm more lift (12 vs. 11.1mm) and 2 degrees less duration than SR16 non N1 (intake cam) 280 vs. 278. In theory you could go a little higher even on a stock 20V head (maybe 8500). Adding N1s should cut some slack since it has a softer ramp… 9000RPM should be ok on a stock 20V head…. For peace of mind you should source them unicorn ti retainers that allow you to use inner springs of regular 20VE head. Also 20V head has from the factory the stiffest springs of any SR20 head.
