miss shifted into 2nd instead of 4th at 7500rpms, high oil pressure now...HELP
Here what happend:
I recently bought GregVs 93 SE-R sr20ve and after driving about 15 minutes I was at 7500 rpms in 3rd gear I shifted into 2nd instead of 4th. Instead of the car just bouncing off the redline, the motor's rpms went above 10,000 rpms and broke the alternator belt. The car's oil pressure now idles at 30-40 PSI and anything above 3500 rpms the PSI is 100+. The car also feels like it is lacking the power that it used to.

There is no knocking from what I hear. I popped the valve cover and nothing was broke, missing or out of place. I dropped the lower oil pan and no metal shavings or parts inside.

GregV said maybe the oild pressure gauge is bad now. GregV talked to Miko and Miko said maybe bent valves.
Any other suggestions before I spend $50+ on a new oil pressure gauge or spend the time taking the head off??

Any help or suggestions taken.

what was the oil pressure before? that pressure seems pretty close to stock.

Oil pressure was about 15-20 before the miss shift

yeah the idle oil pressure seems good, but what was the pressure at higher rpm. its possible you might have spun a bearing and its blocking an oil passage causing high oil pressure. if its noticably different then i would pull the rod caps off and check them. When you block passages that oil is supposed to free flow through it will cause just that, it might not be knocking yet but possibly will. Just like if your oil clearances for your bearings are too tight the oil pressure will be high.

that seems low. what was the cruising psi before the over-rev? my ve's oil pressure hovers around 95-100 psi while cruising, don't recall what the idle pressure was but I know it's upwards of 40psi.

Well, I only ran the car for 15 minutes before I miss shifted so, I don't know the cruising rpms
Anything above 3500 rpms and the oild pressure is above 100 (gauge only reads up to 100).
Maybe I should just drive it around and hope for the best

over 100 seems really high, and you have to know whatever rod bearing spun will affect the others. if you spun the #1 or 2 the oil wont go to the other main or rod bearings. that would be a bad thing. but hey to each their own. I would pull it apart to check.

When the oil is cold my car can see 100+psi easily, mine warmed up on idle it 25-30psi on cruise it's more. Your pressure seems fine after the over rev and worse before.

Maybe your fixed a low oil pressure problem Bravo. :P

remember this is a VE, 100+ is right.
