What type of motor oil do you use in your SR20VE (viscosity, not brand)
I'd imagine we all use some brand of synthetic, I was just wondering what grade/viscosity you guys are running. I have always used 5W-30 although I just gave 10W-30 a shot this most recent change (Mobil-1 synthetic if you were wondering)

So what do you use and if you have the time, why do you use it and do you see any benefits over another? You can vote for more than 1 as I know some of you switch depending on the season or other variables.

Feel free to post your favorite brand too. It seems the most popular brands are of course Mobil-1, Valvoline, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Pennzoil, Rotella, and Castrol.

I wanted to add that I've been using Mobil-1 in all my SR20DE's and SR20VE for a decade, but I used Valvoline once, and the head gasket blew, haha. Yes, surely just a coincidence, but I haven't gone back to it. I'm running Mobil-1 5W-30 in the 200sx SE-R right now, and Mobil-1 10W-30 in the Sentra SR20VE

I use 10w40 conventional, either valvoline/pennzoil/castrol for n/a.

Boost was conventional 20w50 Castrol. I dont waste my money on synthetics, I change the oil pretty frequently on the car, under 1500 miles per change.

10w40 Amsoil in all my cars.
I've never had any oil related issues and the engines always look superb on the inside.
Extra long changing intervals are a plus also; of course I take care of my VE though, if I beat on it then the oil gets changed quickly after.

I run 5-40 in my ve. I have ACL race bearings in mine, so the clearance is a little bigger than oem.

Fuck Mobil 1.

Numerous times from different people, (myself included) with having an engine "mysteriously" die of rod knock with the oil clear and level where it should be and Mobil 1 was in it when it died of rod knock.

I used dino oil from Mobil 1 for YEARS with zero issues. I switched to Valvoline Red Bottle MaxLife Semi-Synth blend and used that for one year successfully in five to six oil changes. I then wanted to move to a full synth and chose Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w/30 and that allowed my car to leak out of all sorts of mystery places. I shopped until I found Valvoline MaxLife Full Synth (silver bottle), used that in the first oil change, all the drips stopped mysteriously appearing from under my car after a drive.

I certainly appreciate a full synth vs semi-synth blend vs dino oil gains, but I highly disapprove of Mobil 1 in an SR20 engine from my experience. @LOUROK understands

5w30, 5w50, 10w40, 10w60... no specific brand. My personal opinion is that oil brand is not important.

See I've had the exact opposite viewpoint, I've been using the stuff for a decade and it's always been great. For me, at least.
