I've had an 8cw VE build and have gone back to 4cw. I have it on good authority that a lot of the local touring cars (local version of BTCC) ran 4cw's.

most btcc cars are torn down and inspected after every few races.

From Mike K
I would be inclinded to run the 8 CW crank for a serious motor. Miko has noted short bearing life with the 4 CW cranks.

From Bigtoe
The crank tends to bend across the journals proportionate to the load on the piston and rod assembly. On the 4 ctw the counter mass to the primary bending (first order vibration) is only partially accomodated for across the axis of the crank, hence the amplitude of vibration is greater than with the more evenly counterweighted 8 ctw crank.

also note that some of the highest revving cars run 8cw cranks from the factory

94-99 USDM Sr20's are lowport and non roller rocker. 8CW cranks in these motors.

ALso the UK 10:1 motors came in low port.

In the UK we changed from spraybar lowport to RR lowport in 1996.

i know of a 4 cw ve' with all the goodeis that see's 9500 rpm.

hasnt had a problem yet.

if it was me id run stick with the 4cw in a ve for the faster rev's as i believe they are just as tuff as the 8cw's.

stratton.

why not just balance and knife edge the 4cw?... you'll get to rev faster.... and probably wont get much vibration either

I plan on building my ve with the 4cw crank. Balanced, I guarantee I won't see any problems.
