good news and bad news. bad news is the problem wasnt the MAF. good news is i know what it is now! theres a hose that goes from the back of the engine underneath the fuel rail area that goes to the intake. with the hose off, car purrs like a kitten. with the hose on, the maf starts making that sucking noise again and it idles rough. if i have the hose off and put my thumb over the end, the engine dies. in the morning i am going to take the intake off and check to see if there is an obstruction in that nipple. can someone in the VE world tell me what that tube goes to? If there isnt anything wrong with the intake, ill be back at square one again.

When you take it off toss up some pictures of what your talking about in case it can relate to the roughness i'm getting from my DET

Re: n60 MAF issues
Will do. An obstruction in the intake makes sense now that I've been sitting here mulling it all over. We shall seen in the morning

isn't that hose the one that connects up the iacv?

i believe it is. the other hose goes to the valve cover.

ok so i took the intake apart. no obstructions. left the hose off since it idles good and went for a drive. car still drives like shit. very jerky and laggy. engine is not smooth at all. so at this point i am unsure as to what the issue is. ill post up those pics that speed wanted.

Here is a pic of the hose that i am pretty sure goes to the iacv

heres a couple pics of the intake. the larger nipple is where the hose was

I put the intake back on and left the hose here and it idled great.

later today i want to double check maf voltages but from the time when the car ran good till now, the only thing that has changed is the ECU, tune, and the addition of a stepdown harness. i just went through and checked every single pin against Cliff's diagram and the stepdown harness checks out. so as soon as i hear back from John, i will update.

Ok, I know what that sucking noise is now. I noticed it on my ve the other night when I was messing with my idle. When I unplugged the Iacv started the car and plugged the iacv back in, I noticed a definite intake wooshing. Much like you are decribing, so that seems normal.

A couple things I noticed from your pick. You have two nipples in that pipe that look like they are right next to each other. I would move the smaller one, for the iacv, away from the large one. It seems silly, but at idle, both of those hoses will pull vacuum. With them next to each other, it seems like the large one is pulling in most of the air and depriving the small one (iacv).

the iacv hose (the hose that goes back behind the engine under the intake mani) is on the bigger nipple not the smaller one.
