n60 MAF issues
So my VE is idling really rough. I thought there was a loose wire but i redid the wiring and the problem is still there. so heres the deal. with the maf plugged in, it idles rough, rev's fine, but there is a loud sucking/whirring sound. with the maf unplugged it idles fine, sucking/whirring sound is gone, but of course it doesnt rev. i am including a video. you will have to listen over the sucking sound to hear the loping.

let me know what you think. I cleaned the maf and that didnt make a change.

Check the lines going to the iacv and ALL of your vacuum lines.

sound's just like my poncamed sr20de with a maf wired up. do you have another maf to try/compare to? ecu talk to read voltage's?

checked all my vacuum lines and didnt see anything. while moving things around i realized that sound is coming from the maf itself.

i do not have another maf to plug in. and im running a chipped ecu so i don't think i can plug in to read voltages (correct me if im wrong).

natethebrown is going to stop by tomorrow and help me check voltages, etc.

I'm not sure in your case, but in my 95 i have a step down harness to use OBDI w/ Calum RT and my Consult cable still works via the consult port...do you have one of those to try?

no i got a normal chipped ecu with a stepdown harness from JKTuning.

Just cut back a bit of the wire hear the plug to expose some of the wires and measure the voltage with a multimeter.

Ok update. We got a voltmeter and did some checking. The wiring harness is putting out the correct voltages. The grounds passed. Now the weird part. We swapped it to ohms to check the maf itself. No matter what pins on the maf we put it on, it showed a short. nate checked his normal maf on his 200 and it didnt do that. so to me it sounds like the n60 maf is bad. i wouldn't think that the maf should be shorted out on all pins. Nate is going to run by junk yard and see if he can find a n60 on a maxima over there today so hopefully that will fix the problem.

This seems like the most likely conclusion.
