Slim Fans for Koyo Radiator?
What slim fan is everyone running on the Koyo? Also is everyone just hardwiring them in or splicing the factory fan plugs to the new fans? I would like to know what size to get as well, will be running 2 fans and I have the r1977 Koyo radiator just in case anybody wanted to know.

The 14" slim fan from www.siliconintakes.com is very popular. It fits well and moves air. I think mostly it is popular because it is super cheap.

I run only one of them, and used the OEM plug from the OEM fan to get the job done. The other OEM fan doesn't have a plug with pigtails, so you may have to head to the junk yard if you want two.

I am running 2 12" slim fans both have the factory plugs wired in so they connect like the factory fans. A ben mentioned only one of the factory fans has a pig tail. the other fan will need to taken apart to use the plug. You could also go to the junk yard or a dealership and pick up the other plug.

Two 12" SPAL fans on my KOYO. The SPALS are NOT cheap, but overheating is NOT something I mess with. You could get away with a cheaper solution as per Ben, but as far as I am concerned, once the car hits 190 F, the fans turn on and it take about 10-15 secs (timed personally) for the car to get down to 180F and the fans to turn off. I run fairly cheap coolant as well (Peak in a blue bottle if I remember correctly)

Also, I ended up using bullet connectors for the fans as I need to ability to

1) Swap fans over quick and easy
2) The ability to swap polarity at will (takes 10 secs max for both fans to go from pusher to pullers)

Did you guys both get 12" fans because you assumed 14" wouldn't fit?

Ben, I got the 12" as they just "fit" better for me for my mounting situation.

Also, they ended up pushing much more air than needed, and since I did not have a condenser, I did not have to oversize my fans

The flow spec point you raised Nate is correct. None of the top quality fans I know have "proper" specs, hence why I ended up going with top quality as I had more first hand experience as far as flow numbers (had several fan setups) are concerned

Also, the reason I run 2 fans on my "race car" is because it's street driven occasionally (could potentially see traffic......just no rain/snow/sleet however) and versatility and reliability are high on my list of things the car needs to comply to

Another point when I was trying to use the cheaper fans... They fail... ALOT. I think I went through 6-7 of them in a 2 year period racing. My SPAL is 2 years old.... which is cheaper?

I'm about to convert to a new 76mm thick, 2 row, 3 pass crossflow radiator.... I can only fit one fan

Thanks everyone! I'm going with 2-12" SPAL fans, I want quality and the car has A/C. Just going with a bigger Radiator since I track the crap out of this car, it just can't handle hot Texas summers and track events
