also here's a pic of an old headgasket that was giving some problems. If I removed the rad cap with engine running I could see some tiny bubbles coming up, even below operational temp. Apparently it rusted very bad, and I'm guessing it was causing some separation in between the layers of the HG.

Cool. Well more new OEM head studs are in. Getting the head back from the machine shop Thursday.

I once had a similar problem with head studs feeling bad during install. Turned out there was some gunk in the thread holes. The studs and gasket will never seat properly until its out. Easy fix though, just have to run a tap through each hole a few times .( twice usually did it for me ) until they are clean.

Yep, thanks for the tip, getting it back from the machine shop tomorrow. All looking good! Depending on the weather should be on the road in a week or so.

I remember this. That was painful watching you go through that. I had very similar problems around the same time when I turned my B12 over to a half ass mechanic.

Haha yeah it was just as painful going through it! Lol. But good advice on the forum helped resolve it in the end.

As for the B12 saga, I still have some ambitions to build a b12 chassis with an all motor ca18de or fun at some point. But those chassis are getting older and harder to find by the day.
