It's been about three weeks now total since the original gasket went, should be back on the road in about a week

Nice valve job man! 3 angles? That job really helps a lot!
Mine did 5 angles, no port and polish and the performance is insane in comparision with oem. Just hit the VVL and screams crazy!
I had to do some work in the ignition map, only.

Cool!! Thanks for the kind words. I can't wait to drive it. The machine shop that resurfaced the head gave me a great deal, said they'd hot tank and port and polish the head if I paid for clean up costs since my friend works there. Couldn't say no to that!

We are supposed to get SNOW tomorrow here in PA so it looks like work will be put off another day or two if it pans out.

Great!!! Mine was a little expensive he heheh, also threw in some supertech valve seals and new guides.

Well broke a new head stud putting things back together. Damnit! I knew I should have gotten a few extra when I ordered. Now everything delayed 2-4 days because I have to order a new one from Nissan. They are only $5 bucks each so I'm going to get 2 just in case.

It takes a lot of over torqueing to snap a head bolt. Follow the FSM steps so it doesn't happen again.

I hope you have your valve shims in order so you can put them back to their original position, also order some extra shims because the lash clearance will change since you did valve job.

We had already done 4 and then the 5th one went. It didn't feel right from the start. The broken stud also happens to be where the head gasket failed, so I'm not taking any chances and having it looked at and cleaned if necessary at the machine shop, but it means I have to move more parts around and more time. No idea if the bolt breaking at the same spot is a coincidence or related to the gasket failing.

Are you replacing all your head bolts? All the cylinder head jobs I have done I always replace all the headbolts with new ones, I was taught this way and have never had an issue with the repair.

Yep all were/are being replaced with brand new ones. The machine shop is going to drill out the bottom part of the bolt, then check the alignment of the holes, then chase all the threads to make sure there's no other issues.
