Is your 1st gear worthless in your modded VE?
Ahh, FWD. Ok so maybe it's not worthless, but I have never been able to get significant traction in 1st gear in my B13 with the SR20VE at WOT. Makes me wonder how I'd do at the track. I have all the bolt ons including N1 cams and springs. The only thing I'm missing so far is the G-spec crank and water pump pulleys which are sitting on my desk.

Here's 2 quick videos my friend took earlier from a distance of me in first gear trying to launch from a stop. Yeah it's totally dark out just turn up the sound.

Now these were from launches completely stopped. You guys here prob know the worst is when you're in first gear and moving at like 15-20mph then floor it. The wheels just spin or you hit the rev limiter. Ahh! I have a '97 SE-R, stock SR20DE with all bolt ons and I can't get the wheels to spin in 1st gear at all.

Please note I'm mostly joking around but seriously my front tires are taking a beating so I don't do it often. I usually only step on it in 2nd gear.

P.S. I will post daylight vids tomorrow if anyone is bored and wants to watch.

With slicks you will be fine at the track. You will have to launch that thing around 8-8500rpm. Mine is worthless on the street first and second gear on regular street tires.

Man I've never heard or seen VE being too powerful for first gear. Guess VE's are really advancing with more torque. I know that my VE had no issues on a fatty p11 in 1st.

I want slicks sooo bad!! I ran a 13.8 at the track spinning the wheels like crazy, do you have a before and after time yourself?

And here's a 2nd gear pull in the same car, but already doing like 35mph. So much better.

lol Vadim

Maybe not in a 2700 lb P11 or B15 but in a lightweight b13/b14, 1st gear can be very useless especially on street tires. Here was my stock cam ve with intake/header running open/pullies/flywheel/calum basic/pop charger/e60 maf/ on brand new 205/50/15 falkens

With my current 6 speed trans I think 1st gear would be a little less useless being at 9700 rpm on a 225/50/15 tire it gets me to about 58mph in 1st gear. lol

Key is to have drag radials. It will help out a lot on the street. Track, slicks or go home.

Exactly... its all in right foot and proper tires.

Why anybody want to make big power and dont have proper tires? Anyone heard about power is useless without traction?
