Thread: Back with questions - RWD VE

Hey guys, been a while since I've been around as I no longer have an SR20 powered beast (or a car for that matter). My brother and I are looking to start a project in the spring and we've come up with something that I think would be quite fun. However, with our limited knowledge on these things I figured I would swing by here and ask some questions. Hopefully they haven't been asked before. I tried a couple searches and didn't see anything.

Basically what we are looking to do is a high compression N/A SR20 build with a VE head, dropped into an S13 Coupe or S14. I've looked around and haven't found hardly anyone that's done something like this? I found a video on YouTube of a guy in Australia that has a SR20 w/VE head in an S13 but they are all in-car videos of him on a racetrack. No info on the car.

I know we'll need a RWD block, VE head and everything to make it fit, etc.

1) Will a 20V head fit a RWD block?
2) Is Mazworx fitment kit required for the VE head, or can we do it cheaper?
3) Which oil/water pumps are best for our 9k to 9.5k rpm limit?

Also, if YOU were to do a project like this, how would you go about completing it?

Car will be autocrossed/tracked when we are through with it.

Any help would be appreciated.

2) there are other options but they may not be in the USA, so mazworx maybe the easiest had relocay kit
3)if youre using a RWD block, your water pump will either be electrical/stock DET... VVL VET/20V is the best oil pump, but the stock VVL pump will suffice.

4) get the two engines, put them side to side, and figure it out

As far as the question I asked about how you would go about it, I meant like if you were building this setup which parts would you use? (Pistons, cams, etc) Just trying to get an idea of the best setup for our power goals. (200-220 wheel)

why not buy a stock DET if you want 200whp

ahhhh. totally missed the N/A sir. my apologies! this vvl forum is littered with 200 whp setups.

one of the concerns in your setup is that you will need a header, as all the cool VE headers are FWD.

one advantage you will have by going RWD VE is that your intake will have to be custom, so you can design it to take full advantage of your HCR pistons and Custom Exh header.

No problem, I knew 200whp was doable as I've seen it many times in FWD applications.

And yeah, that's one thing my brother and I like to do when we build cars is to do something different from the norm. I thought a nice S13 Coupe or S14 with a high compression N/A VE build might attract some attention if it's done right.

I figured as much on the header and intake manifold, but that may not be an issue. We'd have to trailer to car from Phoenix to Colorado, but there's a guy in my home town that does custom fab work and he does excellent work for a good price.

It might take a little more to get the power to the wheels your looking for vs FWD. If your running a RWD DE block you can run the SR16VE pistons to get you over 13.X. You also won't have to notch the side skirts to clear the oil piston squirters since the DE doesn't have any.
